Texture Tuesday - Gardening

As you know by now, I have been participating in Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday photo exercises. This week we were to process a photo using at least one of Kim's textures with a photo fitting the theme, Gardening. HA!! That fits right in with all that poor Jer [aka Old McTurlington] has been about lately -- trying to get that tomato and pepper farm going! I took this photo using my iPhone with the Hipstamatic app camera. This image is done with the Kaima Mark II lens and Ina's 1969 film. Then I took it into Photoshop CS5 and worked it over using some of Kim's textures. Here is the layer palette from the finished image:

We haven't had an iPhone Photo Friday in a while so I thought I'd show you what I've been playing with.

I don't know about you, but I think it is difficult to get a good photo with the Hipstamatic app's Salvador84 lens so I've been practicing and managed to get a couple of interesting shots.

If you will click on the original photo, you'll see the faint images that made me think of a figure. I just took it into Photoshop CS5 to see what I could get from it. I ended up having to draw in lots of the head and face.This just shows you that you never know what you have until you explore it in photo applications.

You'll see this one much better if you will click to get the larger pop up version. I did put it into PSCS5 to enhance the color - really just punch up the light in the dark areas with a curves adjustment. You'll see it in the laarger version.

 

Lunch with Grandma in the Waiting room

Do you ever get to flying through iPhone camera apps and then forget what the trail was that led you to a particular image? Well, that's what I did when I got the result above. I'm sure I took it in one app and processed in one or two more but what? Any hints?

Here are a couple more that I did and almost forgot the app I used for processing them . . . but at the last minute I FOUND IT!! It was "picfx."  I have had lots of fun with that one. These are two of the more recognizable looks in that app:

Texture Tuesday - Yesteryear

 
Abandoned House - Fairfield, TX

It's Texture Tuesday time again -- with Kim Klassen. This week, Kim gave us one of her way cool textures, Yesteryear, and asked us to use it with our images. For my image, I used her texture on two layers and then used one of my textures on two layers. Lastly, I used another of Kim's magic textures, KK2 with a layer mask to erase and soften some of the lines. And at the last minute I added Kim's texture, Sweettart, to lend a rosy hue (except to the sky which I mostly masked out.) The final touch was to use one of my layer masks to create this funky framing edge.

BTW, this old house is behind the Dairy Queen in Fairfield, Texas. It must have been an awesome thing in it's day. But I have to tell you -- I'm crazy about it in this shape. Am I sick or what?

No Trespassing - Houston, TX

I did a second image usig Kim's Yesteryear texture. This one is a shot I took from the car as we drove by this old abandoned building in downtown Houston. It is about a block from MinuteMaid Stadium. I used Kim's texture on three layers! May's Magic, KK2 is another of Kim's textures I used here on two layers. Saturation adjustment layer to change the over all look to green. To cap things off, I changed the overall deminsions to a "fatter", squarer look and built a frame with brushes and color.

Day of the Dead Dolls - Alice in Wonderland

Well, I thought you ought to know that the final member of the family has just been adopted!

We think our Cheshire Cat is quite a handsome fellow and are proud to have him join the family.

He will fit in nicely. He and Alice were somewhat friends already. The Mad Hatter will be checking up on things as time passes.

We've had a VanGogh portrait painted of him as a welcoming gift. We hope that will make things smoother for him. (He has to give up smoking the hooka pipe if he's moving in with us!) Hope he makes the transition ok. Here is a look at that painting. Hope he likes it.

Here is an image I created for Kim Klussen's Texture Tuesdays. I shot the flag image with my iPhone camera at a bank here in Huntsville. I processed it in one of my layers apps (Backgroundz? Blender? Can't remember - senior moment!) to add my apartment building image - also shot with my iPhone Camera, in Houston.

I took the processed image into Photoshop to use Kim Klaussen's textures, May Magic 2 with a linear dodge at 100%. Then I dropped it all into one of my custom masks and gave it a lens flare and a drop shadow.

I usually like a little more subtle effect with textures but when I dropped this one in, it made me think of a flag that was battle-worn but still serving and I liked it. How about you?

Don't ya just love home movies? LOL. Well, I'm posting this for my family -- especially those who couldn't make it to the celebration for Mother's Day. These are the ones who did make it.

That's my mom sitting in the middle on the bench and me behind her. My brothers and husband are behind me. The crazy guy in the back row sticking out his tongue is my goofy son (wouldn't you know?) His dad says he always had that problem and we could never break him of it. I'm sure his wife (in front of him) is proud. BTW, those are my grandkids on the ground and the young fellow in the orange Sam Houston T-shirt on the bench. The other young ladies are my brothers kids. That's Tommy, the photographer on the far right. Hey, who was taking the photo? Modern technology! LOL

And a good time was had by all!
