Dundee Necklace, (handmade mixed media art jewelry)
The other day when I got my jewelry tools out, I "built" this necklace. One of the nurses in the surgery unit at Sadler Clinic said it looked like "a necklace that Crocodile Dundee might like." (I don't know why because I never knew him to need a compass! I called it the Dundee Necklace anyway.)

This necklace boasts lots of mixed jewelry media: a working "glow-in-the-dark" compass, various beads, brass findings, vintage chain, handmade copper wire connections and wraps, as well as sari silk.
The inspiration for my necklace came from my good friend, Deryn. She is smack in the middle of an online class, The Build Zone, for learning mixed media jewelry basics. (Registration remains open until Friday April 1st with the class ending April 16th.) Thanks, Deryn, for all the great refreshers in making components and designing that I got from your class. It certainly put me in the mood for turning pliers and twisting wire!
If you are in need of some really great teaching and super, over-the-shoulder, detailed video how-tos, I highly recommend any of Deryn's online classes. Find descriptions and details at her blog, Jewelry Works.
Keep in mind, if I can do this, just imagine what you could do:
Note: I took all these photos (on the arm of the couch in the waiting room of the Conroe Surgery Clinic while waiting for Jerry to have a cataract removed)
with my way cool, new - to me - iPhone 4
using the Hipstamatic Camera App
with the Chunky Lens and Dream Canvas Film.
Very nice "build" and photography too. xoxo
