I've been working in very small patches of time on my digital manipulation classes. Peace and Serenity is a piece I did for a class during week three of Digital Magic taught by Marie Otero. Week three was all about making custom brushes, using filters including the watercolor filter, and creating painterly looks with brushes. Let me show you a picture of my original photo I used for this project:
Catholic Church Spire, New Waverly, Texas
Many of my custom brushes were used to "paint"on this photo and seven different textures were applied. In addition to my own textures, there are textures and overlays from lesBrumes, ishtexture, Oscrap's MistiqueDesigns, and Digital Scrapbook Place. I also made my own clipping layer using the quick mask mode and the Brushstrokes Spatter Filter. . .( I'm not even sure I could say that again - much less DO it again!) You also see in this piece an example of the custom signature brush I made for this week's projects.
Family Fleur-De-Lis
This fun piece was for a lesson on creating with text and making a custom background. I chose to use shapes rather than text. I started with the fleur-de-lis and star shapes that came with my Photoshop program. I filled the fleur-de-lis with my photo of one of my handmade papers and I put my photos of my grandchildren into the stars. You also see here the drop shadows that Marie teaches on the shapes as well as on the background. If you get a chance to take an online class with Marie - jump on it. She is wonderful and she crams so much into her classes.
Sunflower, Original Photo
(Pretty good image for an iPhone camera, huh?)
One of the projects for week four of Marie's class involved practicing layering with texture, using layer masks, and using the color replacement tool. I started with this photo of a sunflower that I took with my iPhone on an elementary school campus in Huntsville, Texas.
With Marie's techniques, I turned it into a completely different look - for the better, I think.
S is for Sunflower
Ohmigosh Sally -- I LOVE what you're doing! It sounds really hard though! I'm hoping Marie does another class in the fall -- I didn't sign up for the one that she's doing now because August is such a busy month. But your pics are fantastic. The church steeple is incredible!

Hi Sally,
I just found you by googling "Never Dull" I want to start experimenting with it and forgot the blog where I read about it. But, serendipity! I found your wonderful blog and immediately placed you on my blogroll.
I look forward to reading many more of your great posts!
