Sharilyn Miller's DVD, Tribal Treasures Bracelet Workshop

Sharilyn Miller has hit the target - full on bullseye - with her new DVD, Tribal Treasures Bracelet Workshop. It is so much more than just a workshop for making one bracelet. As soon as I got my copy of the DVD, I couldn't wait to see it. I just followed along, practicing with copper wire instead of expensive sterling silver. I had planned to just practice each technique but then, Sharilyn showed putting the pieces together so I followed suit and constructed a bracelet from my pieces. The result is in the picture above and below. (Click on them to get larger scans.) By the way, I will be putting it up for sale - check the last album in my picturetrail.

My bracelet was too long for me when I finished because, in my inexperience, I chose a really long bead for the focal piece and then didn't compensate for it. And I realize now that next time I want to coil a wire to go around a long bead like that, I will make the coiled wire much longer so that more than one of the loops will be around the bead itself. Anyway, as I contemplated which bead to leave out to shorten the bracelet -- I just didn't want to leave one out so I elected to cut off half of the "s-clasp." Consequently, I have more of a "U-clasp" -- a hook and eye, sort of -- LOL. But that works for me and I've worn my bracelet with pride, worts and all (I won't point out all the clumsy wire work -- maybe you'll miss seeing it.) Mainly, I just wanted to share this jewel of a DVD for any of you who might like to try your hand at jewelry making.
I know I sound like a commercial but I can't say enough about how great this DVD is for actually learning how to make wire and bead jewelry. If you have Sharilyn's book, Bead on a Wire, you'll be delighted to have this live demo of the techniques in the book. How precious is that? I must say that Sharilyn is a most thorough, knowledgeable, approachable, and generous teacher. I can hardly wait to actually meet her and take workshops from her IRL!
In October, Sharilyn will be teaching four incredible workshops in Houston (yippee, finally a great workshop comes to our neck of the woods) sponsored by the Houston Polymer Clay Guild. If you can possibly do it, come take classes with me -- but hurry and register - I'm sure the classes will fill quickly.
WOW! How great is this? Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sally
This looks great, I love the beads, are they pottery? The copper makes the whole piece very warm colour wise. Love it.

Sally your bracelet is a beauty!!! Thanks for including the link on Sherylin and the info on the DVD. I've been wanting to learn wire techniques and have not been able to figure it out on my own. If I could produce something half as gorgeous as your bracelet I'd be tickled pink!!

Sally, wow, thank you SO MUCH for your amazing review of my DVD! I stumbled upon it tonight while surfing on the web... you see, I'm supposed to be filming my next DVD (on rings) but avoiding the task, just like I used to procrastinate when I spent most of my time as a writer/editor. I need a whip or something to make myself get back on camera and continue filming! Anyway, I just wanted to write and thank you very, very much for reviewing my DVD on your incredible web site, and tell you that your copper bracelet is fabulous! No surprise there, seeing your altered art, collage work, and amazing art dolls. You are naturally gifted and very creative. It is truly an honor to have my DVD mentioned in such glowing terms on your site. I look forward to seeing you in Houston this October!
Oh, if people write to you asking where they can order the DVD, here is a quick link: http://www.filmbaby.com/product_info.php?cat=0&products_id=1217
Warm hugs and many thanks,
Sharilyn
