The City of Huntsville, Texas was granted an historic nineteenth-century mansion just off the downtown square for the purpose of furthering the arts in the area. The city created many citizen committees for research and planning ultimately resulting in the decision to create an arts center in the home complete with an art gallery, gift shop, instructional workshop areas, a separate ceramic studio and children's work area, offices, kitchen, dining room, marvelous porches and grounds for miscellaneous art and civic functions.

My good friend, Barbara Tyson, local artist and the new center's gift shop chairman, recently hosted a workshop and work session for local artists. The artists first enjoyed lunch and a presentation of altered journals and calendars that I showed them from my collection of collaborative projects. The purpose of the day was to to have each artist create collaged greeting cards and donate at least one to benefit the Wynne Home Art Center. My cards are shown at the opening of this post above and here below:

Watercolorist, Patty Davis, was the only artist who created a card in her usual medium (below left:)

Ann Olsta, Marsha Phillips, Pam Markham, and Marjean Creager
These are awesome. Looks like I missed a great time!

Hmmmm, my folks have a home in Bellville, not too far away and as a child we would stop in Hempstead for dew berries in coffee cans sold on the side of the road on our way back from HillTop Lakes~the resort community my Dad helped develop. :o)

Sally,
What a wonderful art center and an excellent idea regarding the cards. They are all so beautiful. I wish our town had something like this.
Hugs,
Susan
