Pentecost is celebrated by Christians as the birthday of the Church by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Christian Pentecost is the fiftieth day of Easter, which for this year, is May 27 - today!
On the Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection—ten days after Jesus had ascended into heaven—the apostles and other believers were gathered together in one place, when they were suddenly empowered by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel.
They went out into the crowds and attracted attention by preaching in the native languages of all the people present. This created quite a stir. Peter seized the opportunity to address the crowd, preached Jesus’ death and resurrection, and won several thousand converts. (These events are recorded in Acts 2:1-41.)

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off —
for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
That was the beginning of the first churches for followers of Christ. Unlike so many other fledgling groups, especially groups that pop up supposedly in the name of the church, this movement - first called "The Way" - did NOT die out! Here we Christians are, over two thousand years later, still growing for Christ. Hallelujah, it is finished! How will you respond?
Then Jesus came to them and said,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
AMEN, and AMEN!
